OUR LADY MATERNAL CARE INC.

Our Lady Maternal Care Inc. (OLMC) is a 501(c) (3)  tax deductible nonprofit organization dedicated to women's, girls, infants, and children's health and welfare.

Pregnancy is a time of joy and excitement, but it can also be a time of worry for some women. Common risk factors that can make a pregnancy high-risk include pre-existing diabetes, gestational diabetes, pre-existing heart conditions, pre-existing kidney disease, obesity and preeclampsia. This means the mother and baby require close attention to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

OLMC  recognizes the medical conditions of pregnant women that can be life threatening and refer them to nearby hospitals. saving the women and their babies, because no woman should die giving life.

OLMC provides a family-friendly, respectful, environment with high quality support, nutritional education, counseling,  training and care to enhance the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and social well-being  of indigenous and underserved pregnant women, mothers, adolescents, infants, and young children in the rural areas.

OLMC accomplishes this by advising clients on the importance of preventative care and educating pregnant women about the importance of antenatal and postnatal  care and providing good nutrition.

Also, Our Lady Maternal Care supports and  empowers women to become better parents. To sustain the women, OLMC helps them, to pick up a skill of their choice, such as hairstylist, seamstress, catering, etc. OLMC also trains the women and helps them to take first steps to become self- sufficient. OLMC helps children to become more educated, develop positive behavior, and social skills to help them reach their potential goals.

OLMC in collaboration with Radiant Maternal Care in Ghana,  and with the direction of the Ghana Ministry of Health Services, aims to improve the maternal and child health in the rural areas of Ghana.

Poverty contributes to stress and low birth weight in infants, as well as mortality and morbidity of mothers and infants. OLMC works to create an environment in which potential problems in pregnancies are anticipated, detected early and addressed early enough to prevent any fatal consequences.

OLMC helps babies to reach their first birthday and not only survive but thrive to healthy adulthood.

Mission

A story of unselfish love and responding to a call.......

Childbirth is the most memorable times in a life of a family, and all expectant mothers deserves the right to deliver a healthy baby or babies. It is therefore sad that some families are deprived of this happiness due to maternal and neonatal mortality, morbidity, and disability. Every mother or baby is subject to the risks of pregnancy, labor, or delivery. However, the risks in less developed countries in Sub- Saharan Africa are higher. No child should be of high risk of birth complications, and no mother should be at high risk during childbirth simply because of where they live.

OLMC founder, Yaa Asante-Addae had a dream following her graduation with a Master of Public Health degree, and a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition.  After graduation she followed the traditional path of gaining experience in the private sector. But, as she developed great skills, she realized that there was still a fervent need for helping women in her original homeland of Ghana, and other surrounding countries. This knowledge ignited her enthusiasm for giving back by forming OLMC  dedicated to saving lives of the unborn and mothers, children and adolescents by providing services to women, starting from the rural communities of Ghana.

Like many of us, Yaa knows first hand that the opportunity to hold a healthy newborn is one of the most precious time in a parent’s life. That opportunity is stolen from far too many families and replaced with heartbreak because mothers don’t have access to quality health care, resulting in maternal and neonatal mortality, morbidity and disability. Children are our future. We all play a part to make the difference.

OLMC provides Health Services, Nutrition Education,  Counseling, Good Nutrition , Lactation Support, Health and Wellness Services and Healthy meals to indigenous underserved pregnant women, mothers, and children starting in the rural areas of Ghana. OLMC is dedicated to eradicating preventable maternal and child birth related complications in low resources areas. Our Lady Maternal Care will continue to conduct more research on ways to improve the quality of life of expectant mothers, and children.  Yaa's constant prayers to ensure the care women need to go through pregnancy and childbirth safely will be answered.
